That fact that trees have been cultivated in Opheusden and its environs for centuries is not a coincidence. This region lies between the Rhine and Waal rivers. The fertile fluvial clay is an excellent culture medium for trees.

Trees have been cultured in Opheusden for centuries, and the resultant expertise has been transferred from father to son just as long. Around 1650, there were already several dozen tree nurseries in Opheusden.

The tree growers within Tree Centre Opheusden have something in common: they have an eye for the environment and an eye for sustainable cultivation. Tree cultivation may be all about production and profit but we see every tree as a natural product and every nursery as a natural area.

Knowledge

Opheusden and its environs are traditionally a tree nursery region. More than 800 people work in the sector. When you drive through this region, you will see endless plots of land with long rows of trees. This nursery site comprising some 1,500 ha is vital to the local economy.
